For merchants who want to create, edit, and share videos, there are plenty of new innovative online tools for little or no expense.
Here is a list of recently released tools from online video platforms and social media applications. There are tools for advertising, editing, tagging, production, social commerce, analytics, distribution, and live-streaming.
New Video Tools
YouTube announces Video Builder to create ads. For businesses that don’t have the resources to make videos from scratch, YouTube has created Video Builder, a free beta tool that animates static assets (images, text, and logos) with music. Choose from a variety of layouts based on your message and goals. Customize colors and fonts. Then easily generate a short YouTube video (6 seconds or 15 seconds). To join the beta program, fill out a request access form.
Vimeo’s new app helps small businesses create professional videos. Video platform Vimeo has launched Create, a short-form, free video creation tool in beta. Find the right story for your business using custom video templates, or start from scratch. Trim with the smart editor, tailor the layout and elements, distribute across the web, and measure the impact in one place.
Tag Snag lets you automatically snag video tags on YouTube. A new, free Chrome tool called Tag Snag enables you to extract the tags used on any YouTube video. Navigate to a single video and grab all the video tags. Search a keyword on YouTube and grab all of the tags for the top 10 videos. Copy the tags to your clipboard and start implementing them into your own videos.
InVideo launches an automated AI assistant to make better videos. InVideo, an online video creation platform, has released Intelligent Video Assistant to automatically correct technical mistakes with the design and layout, such as text legibility, proper alignment, animation, frame equilibrium, motion effects, and more. Meant to be like Grammarly for your videos, the tool makes suggestions as you create a video. It focuses on two text-related areas: reading and comprehending.
Canva introduces video editing. Canva’s tools can now edit video clips in addition to static images. Pick a video template, then customize it to suit your needs. When you’ve finished, download your video and share it on social media. Canva will not add watermarks, and there’s no limit to how many times you can edit videos. Canva’s video editing tool is free.
Instagram tests trimming tool for Instagram Stories clips. Instagram is testing a video trimmer tool for Stories. The new option would provide slider trimming within Stories, relieving the reliance on third-party tools. Individuals and brands would be able to produce and release polished videos quickly.
VSCO releases Montage tool to edit and layer photos and videos. VSCO, a mobile app, has debuted Montage, a multimedia creation tool to stack and layer videos, photos, colors, and shapes. Select an aspect ratio (portrait, square, or landscape), and begin adding multiple photos and videos to create scenes. Add in different colors and shapes to create a moving collage effect. Adjust the opacity of any image layered in. Once your Montage video is saved, post it to VSCO or off-platform.
Short video app Byte debuts. Vine co-founder Dom Hofmann has launched a successor looping video app, Byte. Create short looping videos of up to 8 seconds. Add text and GIFs. Tap elements you’ve added to change timing and duration. Byte has standard social features such as a feed, explore page, notifications, and profiles. Byte plans to update the app with monetization features.
Google’s Area 120 launches Tangi, a video-sharing app. From Area 120, Google’s in-house incubator, comes Tangi, a social, video-sharing app. Post a short project video (60 seconds or less), along with a link for related goodies, such as a free template. Use “Try It” to share your take of the projects back to the community.
Clideo makes videos shoppable. Clideo’s new platform makes videos shoppable. With its video tagging, add powerful actions on your videos to monetize your products and allow your audience to engage more actively. Collect statistical data and analyze sales trends in real-time. Clideo videos require their own video player; they can’t be played on YouTube. However, they can be promoted on social platforms via links.
SendBird introduces APIs for voice and video. Chat API provider SendBird has launched SendBird Calls Voice API and SendBird Calls Video API, to integrate high-quality 1:1 voice and video calls inside your application. Create interactions between buyers and sellers that bring products to life, and ensure that users coordinate exchanges on the app. With SendBird Calls integrated into your app, embed custom data into a call’s metadata to create a contextual experience.
Adobe releases Productions for Premiere Pro. For managing multi-project workflows, Adobe has created Productions for Premiere Pro, its Creative Cloud application for advanced video editing. Productions connects the projects, making them into components of the larger workflow. Agencies can allocate a Production to each client, so they can quickly reference and retrieve assets from existing projects. Using shared local storage, multiple editors can work on different projects in the same Production. Project Locking ensures that users do not overwrite each other’s work.
Facebook introduces Messenger Rooms. Facebook has created Messenger Rooms for free group video calls. Start a Room directly from Messenger or Facebook, and invite anyone to join your video call, even if she doesn’t have a Facebook account. Rooms will soon hold up to 50 people with no time limit. Start and share Rooms on Facebook through News Feed, Groups, and Events. Facebook is also adding ways to create Rooms from Instagram Direct, WhatsApp, and Portal.
Skype debuts Meet Now for free group video chats. Skype has added a new feature called Meet Now, which allows people to start free group video chats without having to sign up for an account or download the app. You’ll still need to download the Skype app to use from a phone, though you won’t need an account. All of Skype’s meeting features will work on Meet Now calls.
Otter.ai provides live transcription for Zoom video calls. Otter Live Video Meeting Notes is a new feature that enables Zoom meeting hosts to provide live transcription and collaborative note-taking to all participants. Generate rich notes for your client video calls. Live Video Meeting Notes is included in the Otter for Teams plan.
